Band Bio
Darryl Anders~AgapéSoul is a Modern Soul band based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Led by bassist/producer Darryl Anders, the band delivers a musical experience that is all about Love, Soul …and undeniably funky grooves, destined to stand the test of time.
Before stepping out as a bandleader, Anders built a reputation as a solid sideman with an impeccable sense of time, tone and a mile-deep pocket. His credits include gigs with funk and soul legends Tower of Power, Zigaboo Modeliste, and Booker T. Jones, as well as Grammy-winning songwriter Bonnie Hayes, and two-time Grammy-nominee Ledisi.
Believe in Love, AgapéSoul’s debut album, showcases Anders’ musical vision as a songwriter. The album’s seven original songs and two covers are deeply soulful, uniquely classic, and speak to “the place of love that’s in all of us.”
Gospel-tinged Don’t Say U Love Me, featuring vocalist Zoe Ellis, immediately connects you to a time when musicians played real instruments, songs had enduring melodies, and lyrics actually said something. Anders’ husky baritone and Vince Lars’ passionate sax-work on Time Cannot Erase place this sensual new classic high on the list of modern baby-making music. Indra Jones’ sultry vocals on the funky yet laid-back Tell Me Where It Hurts are just what the doctor ordered. Featured guest vocalist Martin Luther brings his celebrated soulful finesse to AgapéSoul’s cover of the Quincy Jones classic If I Ever Lose This Heaven— this is one song you will keep on repeat!
The truth is, if you’ve been missing real music, you'll love AgapéSoul. Besides being highly-skilled purveyors of soulful originals and definitive covers, AgapéSoul represents a movement that is at once innovative and deeply-rooted in a continuum; a new voice of music from the “True School.” Their goal is to bring something positive to listeners. Explains Anders: “It is not about us, as people or as musicians. It’s about the songs. I’ve been blessed with an opportunity to share my music with the world, and it is my hope that the music of AgapéSoul will inspire and encourage everyone who hears it.
